We incorporated Barefoot Publishing (Pty) Ltd and set out to provide a complete service from project to manuscript to print to e-book for author Jan Bouwman, our first client.

WHO
WE ARE
When Jan Bouwman approached me with the idea of a book I had no idea it would lead to the creation of a this company. He is a very experienced breeder of competitive endurance racing Arabian horses, still competes in long distance events and trains riders and owners. Jan is a master hoof-smith and hoof trimmer.
The story he had to tell was compelling. After being introduced to the art of fitting shoes to a horse which at the time was thought to be an upgrade of any barefoot horse, all the joy of riding competitively was sucked out of the sport. After many years of troubles and losing horses, he had to come to terms with the fact that the iron horse shoes in which almost everyone believed religiously was the cause of all the injuries and retirements.
He then set out to write a book, a process in which I assisted him.

Because I am an attorney our discussions often turned into cross examinations. Every statement had to be argued and explained so that even a layman like me could understand it, and every averment had to be substantiated. RESEARCH & OUTLINE YOUR STORY
Research is an essential tool for professional writers. Good writers spend plenty of time outlining before writing books. Outlines can be detailed chapter outlines or simple beat sheets in which each section of the book is plotted out. Regardless of your method, what’s important is that you have a roadmap for your future writing sessions.
REVISE & EDIT MANUSCRIPT
As you’re writing your first draft, you’ll encounter sometimes writers’ block. That’s normal. Whenever you feel stuck, try going back to your outline or research for inspiration.
Every good book goes through many rounds of revisions. You need to have an honest, ruthless eye on your writing so that you can know what needs re-working.
